Five-Spice Steak and Broccoli
Tender, flavourful steak paired with crisp-tender broccoli and a savoury sauce makes this a simple and satisfying meal. Packed with protein and fresh vegetables, it’s an easy dinner that comes together quickly and is full of delicious, comforting flavour.
Ingredients
- 3 lbs flank steak, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced crosswise
- 1 Tbsp Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 broccoli florets, chopped
- 1/4 cup black bean sauce
Directions
1 In a large skillet, heat 1 Tbsp oil on medium heat. Add 2 broccoli and cook, covered until bright green and tender, 15-20 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
2 In a medium bowl, toss 3 lb steak, 1 Tbsp five-spice powder, and 1 tsp each salt and pepper to coat. Add 1 Tbsp oil to skillet and cook steak until browned, 5-7 minutes per side. Transfer to broccoli bowl.
3 Add remaining Tbsp oil to skillet, then ¼ cup black bean sauce and cook, stirring, until fragrant, 1 minute. Return steak, broccoli, and any juices to skillet along with additional water if needed. Cook, tossing, until coated in sauce, 30 seconds.
